Export ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini chats to Markdown (for Obsidian, Notion) or PDF
If you use more than one AI assistant, your best answers end up scattered across three websites with three different export options. This guide compares them and shows how to get clean Markdown (for Obsidian, Notion, Logseq or a Git repo) or a shareable PDF from each. What each service offers built in

None of them saves one whole conversation as a Markdown file with your questions included, which is what most note-takers want.
Option 1: copy and paste (free, slow)
Copy each prompt and answer into your notes. The copy buttons give Markdown, so code and lists survive. Fine for a short chat; painful for 50 turns, and your own messages need copying separately.
Option 2: Gemini → Google Docs → Markdown
For Gemini answers, “Export to Docs” produces a Google Doc, and Docs can download as Markdown (File → Download → Markdown). It works per answer, not per conversation.
Option 3: parse the official export
If you are comfortable with scripts, the JSON in the ChatGPT and Claude exports contains everything, and open-source converters exist that turn it into one Markdown file per chat. Good for a one-off archive of hundreds of chats; overkill for saving today’s conversation.
Option 4: print to PDF
Ctrl/Cmd + P → Save as PDF works on all three, but the sites aren’t designed for print: sidebars appear, wide code is cut off, and long chats may load only partly.

Making Markdown exports useful in Obsidian
- Save into one folder (e.g.
AI/Chats) and let frontmatter tags (source: claude) do the sorting. - Rename files to what you learned (“Postgres index tuning”) rather than the chat title.
- Link exported chats from the project note they belong to.
- Paste an exported chat back into a new conversation as context to pick up where you left off.
FAQ
Are images included?
Markdown exports usually reference or skip images. The official ChatGPT ZIP includes uploaded files.
Is it safe to use an exporter extension?
An exporter can see your whole chat, so check that it works locally and has a clear privacy policy. Avoid ones that upload conversations to their own servers.
